Car wax is a greasy substance used to polish the surface of car. Car wax can be made up of various chemicals and is used generally after thorough cleaning of cars. A car wax chemical may or may not be applied to the plastic, metallic and leather surfaces depending upon the make of the car wax and it is always better to confirm the applicability of car wax to specific surfaces before its use. It is not that only small or cheaper old cars use car wax and once can easily see the most expensive ones and the in vogue cars like Jaguar, Mercedes and other celebrated models being waxed soon after they are rolled out of showrooms. The main reason for such a trust in car wax is excellent result without any damage to the surface.
The purpose of polishing with car wax is to remove oxidation, swirls, scratches, water deposits, and other imperfections from the various surfaces with paint of metallic finish. The function is not restricted only to removing contamination from surfaces but also removing surface imperfections and smoothening the surface. Polishing using a car wax is a time taking yet a very enjoyable activity for vehicle owners who can not bear with even the lightest of surface imperfection.
Car wax and polish were considered to be different earlier. While car wax takes care primarily of the oxidation of metallic parts, polish is a cleaning compound that removes impurities from the paint which prepares it for waxing, sealing, or protecting. However, this difference is vanishing with the arrival of new hybrid products that help achieving both the aims with just one chemical applied to a vehicle.
Car wax ameliorates the gloss and depth of the painted surface which now appears to shine more and the new layer of wax gives more protection to the surface. Wax comes in many forms such as cream, paste, and liquid. The most common and celebrated type contain carnauba which is a chemical containing high amounts of fatty acids. It is this fatty acid in the chemical carnuba that creates a shield between the paint over the metallic surface and the material that tends to form over it modicum layer hence the surface is protected along with a beautiful luster. Artificial waxes mix low amounts of cleaners with high amounts of UV inhibitors to create protective layer that inhibits the hazardous action of sunlight over the vehicle surface. While a warm and wet look is achieved by carnuba, the man made artificial wax gives a high gloss look to a vehicle which makes it an eye catcher and head turner.
New researches are being made everyday by dedicated scientist in labs all over the world to develop new and better chemicals for it. The main aim is to give car lovers a product that gives their car a new look with optimum protection from external threat and soon such products will dominate the market

Is there much plastic on your car? Some car waxes react poorly to matte plastic, especially the porous, dark kind so popular on recent models, and deposit a residue that may need extra attention with a special cleaner to remove. If plastic is a prominent part of your car’s exterior, choose a wax that is noted for being compatible with plastic.
How long do you want each application of car wax to last, and how much time are you willing to invest in waxing? Liquid waxes performed the best in durability and cleaning tests during a Consumer Reports comparison test of waxes. However, because they took extra time to spread evenly and without streaking, they took the longest to apply. Spray on waxes were the fastest to apply, but they lasted the least amount of time and were the least effective at cleaning.

(Do not panic if you see such areas after you wash your car, as some car wax can often remedy the situation. ) If you are washing your car at home, make sure you use non abrasive cleaning mitts and a car safe detergent. Regular old dish detergent is usually not recommended. Do not plunge your dirty wash mitt back into the soapy water. Dip your dirty wash mitt in a separate rinse container before you stick it back in the container with the sudsy water.

I tend to save change in one of the compartments of my car and use the change I accumulate at the self-serve car wash. Most of the time, I like to wash the car once per week and wax it on Valentine’s Day, Memorial Day, and Labor Day. It keeps my car looking fresh and clean and helps prevent corrosion.
Waxing a car is a relatively simple process. Car polish, or wax, is applied as a thin, transparent layer over the paint.

Also, you will need some soap, which is probably the most important aspect of your car wash supplies. Be sure that you purchase specially formulated car wash soap rather than using household detergent, because it could be harsh on the vehicle finish.
A good sponge is necessary to get the soapy water onto your car from the bucket. Some people prefer to use natural sponges, while others like a synthetic sponge. Both are suitable, and can be purchased at most grocery stores.
